This blog is presently about my mother’s family history, so it’s only fitting for me to begin with her.  The information below if from her funeral service obituary (19 Jan 2004), with additions and corrections.

Elizabeth (Betty) Gene Stone (Becker)

“Betty Becker, the daughter of Walter C. Stone and Grace Walker Stone was born 5 February 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri.  Since her father worked for the railroad, they moved over thirty times as she was growing up.  She graduated from high school in Kingsville, Texas and went on to attend A&I University in Kingsville.  She and Erwin were married on 27 September 1948 in McAllen, Texas.

Betty was a homemaker and spent many years providing for their son, Ronald, who suffered from cerebral palsy.  she served as a researcher for the National Opinion Research Center in testing products.  A most courageous lady, for the last decade she suffered from a brain tumor, but refused to let it dictate her life.  She continued her environmental interests and was an avid birder.  She and Erwin were featured in an article in the South Texas Informer.  Their yard is a certified Texas Wildscape Habitat.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Ronald.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Erwin; her son Russell (Sue) of Lebanon, PA; her daughter Paula Becker Carter (Paul) of Montreal, QC; and her granddaughter, Samantha Becker of Lebanon.

Throughout her life, until her death at the age of 74 on 14 January 2004, Betty most faithfully gave witness to her faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In joy we commend her into the hands of our gracious and loving Heavenly Father.  Soli Deo Gloria.”
