I am researching the Wernse family because William F was cousins with Mary Kielhorn (1880 Census). Mary is a distant cousin of mine as well. I have figured out that Mary must be related to the Wernse's through her mother Louisa. Louisa was born in Hannover around 1827 and married to Henry Kielhorn. They had two girls, Mary and Helen, both born in MO. I'd like to talk to you some more sometime about the Wernse and Hintze families to try to find the connection. I wanted to comment on this article because I have noticed a mistake in your transcription. William enlisted in Nashville, Illinois, not Tennessee.
