Warm Up: Bugs

I can’t seem to draw today. It’s one of those times when I’m frustrated with the thing even before I draw a line. Nothing comes off as right.  The only thing that I liked enough was these two guys above, passing each other on their way to their work locations.

I draw things over and over and over and over… till one of them starts looking right to me. Actually, this is pretty much how I draw all the time. Nothing ever comes out right the first few times. The trick is to make the end result look effortless and easy. You see the duck gliding over the pond… but what you don’t see is the feet kicking like crazy under the water.

Dough: I hear you. It’s a lot like that for me, but today is was like I couldn’t get past that first phase. It just felt like it would NEVER look right. So those are the times you either push through or take a break. Sometimes it’s a mix of both, too.

Jazz: You like the fuzzy worm? We have a lot of those in South Texas; web worms, we call em because they weave webs in the trees. That was back in the days when we would spray pesticides on the trees, to kill them off. I’m pretty sure it’s handled differently now (showing my ignorance, here).

I instantly recognized the yella fella as a S.TX. resident….the fuzzy bad hair thing was a dead giveaway!! We have the same (and a few other varieties) type of web worm here in the Atlanta area…and a tremendous quantity of trees on which to feast. I’ve been spotting them ‘doing their thing’ over the last several weeks…I guess that’s them ‘on the job’, as you’ve illustrated!?
    Very nice!
Best of luck getting back on track.
