IF: C-C-Cold!

I’ve know idea why I thought of Hank Williams’ song “Cold, Cold Heart” when I saw this weeks Illustration Friday topic, but it was a nice opportunity to play around with doing a caracature. And while I was looking for pictures of HW, I found other caracatures and portraits (as well as other stuff) of him that I thought were worth noting. Links are below:

– Hank Williams carved on a pumpkin!

– Not familiar with the song? Here’s a sampling of the original as well as a covers by Nora Jones, Tony Bennett, and Louie Armstrong (same link as above).

– Oh my…Here’s an, uhm, strange midi version of Cold, Cold Heart. Yikes.

– Uhmmm…I’m not sure who did this painting but I like it.

Hank Williams by artist Michael Knott

– Another “I don’t know who did it but I like it” illustration.

– You know you’ve made it when you’re a bobblehead.

– Carmen Pegen does Hank Williams

Jim Zahniser does Hank Williams….

–Sebastian Kruger does HW

– Now this is neat. Gene McClain’s take on Hank Williams

– Paul Forde’s version of HW

–…And illustrator Cindy Kim does Hank

I could go on but I probably lost you a long time ago so enough already.

Wow! I absolutely love this…because it’s Hank Williams and because you did him so well! The colors are perfect; they remind me of a vinatge flannel shirt. His tiny hands are such a nifty stylistic touch. Really, really great illo!

Hi all! Thank you for the kind words in regards to the “Hank” piece.

Carla: Yeah…Those vintage flannel pieces! Thanks for noting that as well as the ‘tiny hands’. It was a fun illo to do. : )

your lettering is so unique, really used to great effect in this piece, how the words seem to grow or fade in volume, and just love that there are numerous musical quote balloons scattered about, your lettering and these make it so lively!

really wonderful colors too, and love the simplicity of his face, you “got” him in just a few lines, jusst really like everything about this!

Cin: That lettering is hard to control. Happy to hear you like it! Thanks for noteing special details. You have some eye!

Michael: Heh! Hank’s oversized suits. Nothing like burns big suit, though. Thanks for commenting!

patricia: Me, too. Nobody sings ‘em like Hank, eh?

I remember this song popping into my head after reading the topic last Friday – but not in my wildest dreams or most ambitious moments would I have attempted to do Hank…and yet, Paula, you pulled him off beautifully with you usual panache and skill. Warmed me right up! Thanks for all the cool links too!

    Kim: Merci!

leo: How’d I execute it, you mean? Painter 9; all digital.

Becky: You flatter me! And Really? You thought of “Cold, Cold Heart” too? It’d be interesting to see how you’d pull that off in your style. I’m sure you’d do great!
