IF: Black & White

When I first saw the subject of this week’s Illustration Friday, my initial thought was of Seinfeld’s black and white cookie, so I figured I might as well go with it.

Here’s the full quote by Jerry to Elaine:

“You see, Elaine, the key to eating a black and white cookie is that you wanna get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate. And yet still somehow racial harmony eludes us. If people would only look to the cookie, all our problems would be solved.”

addendum: I see a few other’s also thought of the Seinfeld black and white cookie. Great minds…!

Hey Paula – I just love it. One of my all-time favorite episodes and your artistic take on it is great! Love the touch of the little squiggles on the cookie. Harmony is just a bite away!

Yes, of course you do, Carolyn. That cookie represents this burning desire in your heart–as well as all mankind’s: to live in a world commonwealth in which all nations, races, creeds and classes are closely and permanently united though maintaining cultural diversity while promoting the unity of all peoples And in this world, infected with racism, to consume the cookie is to say, “Yes, I, Carolyn, look to the cookie”, declaring to all that you are proud to take a stand for a unity melded with diversity such that will enrich the tapestry of human life in a peaceful world society.

    …Or maybe you’re just hungry…?

Thanks, Becky. I miss Seinfeld! I don’t recall the over-all story line. Oh, wait…Is it the one where Jerry & Elaine go to the bakery for a bobka?

Fun illustration, Becky! I was not familiar with the cookie before this round of IF, but I believe I’ve come to know and appreciate it more because of fine work like yours. 🙂

    Thanks, everyone!

Justin: No problem on the name confusion. I’ve been called “Becky” before as my surname seems to trigger that off. : )

Easily the best part of that episode is when the black man salutes jerry with the cookie

Thanks for your comment, Matt!  I caught the episode the other day and noted the guy nodding after Jerry gave his speech.  It is funny.  : )
