Dec ’18: Joyeux Noel! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

Nov.-Dec. ’18: Raccoons 1

Some warmup drawings for November. Sometimes it’s fun to pick a subject or animal and see where drawing it takes you. I spent some time doing that with the raccoon and did several images. The character evolved and changed as I got into it.

Dec. ’18: Magazine Spots–Urban Coyotes

I worked on some cartoon spots of coyotes for a children’s magazine article about coyotes migrating to urban areas.  Very cool and informative article, and one I greatly enjoyed working on!

This one (below) didn’t make it into the article because of lack of room in the layout, so I’ll include here. : )

Nov. 18: Halloween Vampires

Flying lessons? Yes, even vampires need to learn to fly!

Oct. 18: Highlights Magazine–Halloween Spread!

What a fun spread to work on for Highlights Magazine’s October ’18 issue! I love getting illustration projects with a Halloween theme, and this one came with a cute story about a dog named Farley, written by Lisa Mackinder. I had fun with this doing a more painterly style. The spread and some samples are below.

Sept. 18: Rhinoceros Illustration Spots!

I did these fun spot illustrations for a magazine article about rhino conservation. I learn a lot when I do these types of jobs, so I appreciate the project in more ways than one! I’m happy to be a part of helping animals and the conservation of our world!

Sept. 18: Pirate Girl, Snazzy Owl, Hungry Dino, and Goodbye-Bear!

Just some misc. drawings for fun and practice!

August ’18: Piggy Baseball League!

I’ve been watching a lot of baseball, and drawing some baseball-related illustrations for warmups, as well as reposting those from the past. I’ve always liked this piece that I did a few years ago for High Five magazine. I added a bit to the background, as it originally had text in white areas. Anyway, this is the Pigs verses the Swines. The Swines seem to be the more aggressive team, at least in the play here, with a Swine trying to steal second base! I’m not picking sides, but I do hope the pigs can pull it together and make the out! Go Pigs! Go Swine! And go Astros!

August ’18: Lion, Beach Dogs, & Jazzy Elephant!

Just some recent illustrations, sketches and such.

August ’18: An Ogre, Ribbon Girl, Rhino Love, & More

I’m busily drawing many things–all fun, of course! Puzzles, mazes, spots for magazine articles, etc.! Below are some snippets of some of the projects I’ve worked on this summer. Happy August!

July ’18: “Cat Craze”–Kid’s Magazine Illustration

Here’s something from the July issue of Chirp magazine! It was a cat theme and I was also asked to do this two-page spread in a different style than the other “Cat Chat”. I really enjoyed painting all these cats doing fun, silly stuff. I hope the kids enjoyed the variety of “crazy cats, and that the puzzles were an added bonus to helping them in their cognitive growth!

July ’18: Independence Day/4th of July–Firecrackers!

Happy birthday, U.S.A!

July ’18: Canada Day–Beavers and Flags

It’s not quite July, but I’m getting this up a little early, as Canada Day falls on a Sunday this year. Like the blue beaver for the fete nationale, I like to do a red beaver for Canada day. Below is this year’s sketch, along with some past ones. Some of those must have been done over a decade ago. My style has changed (some) and I hope I’m better! So, Happy Canada Day/Bonne fete du Canada, y’all!

June ’18: La Fete nationale du Quebec–Beavers and Flags

It’s holiday time in Canada and there are two that are celebrated on back-to-back weekends–St. Jean Baptiste Day & Canada Day. In Quebec, the former is a provincial holiday, also called La Fete nationale du Quebec. Over the years, I’ve had fun doing quick spot illustrations of a beaver carrying a flag, usually one for each holiday, and this year, I decided to do a fresh one, too! I also included some past examples. Bonne fete!

June 18: “Allison Is an Astronaut”

I had a load of fun working on this spread for the July 2018 issue of High Five magazine! This poem, “Allison Is an Astronaut”  by Barbara L. Scanian was such fun to create a scene for! Since I’ve been taking up star gazing again, I enjoyed recreating a solar system mobile, books about stars and planets, sketches that “Allison” drew, and that fun star background.  I’ve been using a bit of collage in my illustrations  again, seen on the floor and the star background. And besides the poem, this is a puzzle, too. Look for the letter “A” hidden throughout the illustration.

Such fun! It was great to work with Kelley Cunningham Lanuto on this! Thanks again, Kelley!
