I love the colors and mood in this one! And you’ve created a great feeling of not really knowing where the ghost ends (looks like he’s floating under the table).

    Positively phantasmagorical!
What is being written? The crumpled papers on desk/floor implies some difficulty, indecision…perhaps at the start of a big project (a book?). Is the outer surface of the nearby window being pelted by the pitter patter of raindrops? If that’s the case, then I offer that the opening line must be,

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

Thanks Snoopy for keeping E.G. Bulwer-Lytton’s 1830s phrase from his book “Paul Clifford” alive for our generation, and for PJB for giving it ghost of a chance.

I love it, Paula…everything about it. I have more to say (as I always seem too!), but first I have a question (becoming a habit, I know)…Just what might it be that your ghost is struggling so hard to write? Must be of great importance, as he/she seems determined to get it just right!? As evident from the crumpled and discarded previous attempts he/she has been at it for some time, or is quick to know- it just ain’t right!!! Perhaps a perfectionist ghost?, hard to please (himself/herself)?, or maybe a love letter to a ghost of the opposite sex?…must get it just right! Just thought I’d ask…I figured there must be something to this.
Here’s the ‘more’- I’m in agreement with bill, krista, wynlen, michael, Detlef, iliki and loni when they all comment on the use of such great colour! The effect you’ve achieved with the purple/yellow/’almost’ blue colour palette is just perfect! You’ve created an image of the ‘chill’ one associates with the presence of a ghost, the mysterious (but not frightful) air to the scene. Well done!
And, on the use of lighting (as Dig. Scott comments), it is beautifully played off both the table surface and plate glass! Again, a touch of eeriness…without going overboard. It adds just the right amount of contrast to lend a bit of warmth to the chilly room. Perfect!
And, I won’t overlook Krista here…as she comments on Jennifer’s ‘ghost writer’ reference. Jennifer, very clever pick up.
Great job, Paula! So much coming out of such simplicity.

And still there’s more….Ooops! Just read M.R.’s posting (directly above my own) and I see that we both seemed to be seeing/wondering and asking about the same thing, the writing activity. I was actually on the phone with him (M.R., not the ghost!) as I was writing, and was informed that he’d just posted his comment. Should have read it before submitting my own! Well now, Paula…with two inquiries on this issue I will sit by, patiently awaiting ‘the rest of the story!’
    Take care, DLA

You seem to do “something quick” so well…the colors and the concept are excellent. As one who has always had the “honor” of helping family and friends when they need to write anything important, I can relate to your character very well. I always enjoy the wonderful humor you include in you great illustrations:>

Whoa! Lots and lots of neat-o, special-o comments! Happy comments! Thanks everybody for leaving them.

And by the way, the nice colors and ambience some of you have mentioned, well…I guess we can thank my crapped-out monitor for that. I can’t get a correct color sense right now unless I pull it over to another monitor and/or computer. I think the end results of all I’m creating is much brighter and richer than I intend.

And a special congratulations to Jennifer V., for taking note that the subject matter is not just a ghost, but a “ghostwriter”, with ms. krista get honorary mention for noticing Jennifer noticing! Go girls!

Mike & Debbie: Okay you guys… : ) (big grin!) You’re taking back to my college days, where I had one particular English Lit class where we were encouraged and trained to disect every jot and tittle of the stories we read: reading between every line & behind every word! I’m obviously a more visual person than verbal, so your detailed critiques are such a hoot to read sometimes!

I really don’t know what Le Ghost is writing. I gave no indication of whether it’s a letter, a piece of fiction or a suicide note, etc. The only thing we know is that Ghost has made a few attempts at his writing project which he crumpled and tossed nearby. It is indeed a mystery that we can speculate on. Therein lies your creative edge on me! Merci for your comments!
